Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), through its renewable energy division SSE Renewables, has acquired the 32MW Calliachar wind project from I & H Brown.

The wind farm, located 5km south of Aberfeldy in Perthshire, was consented by Scottish ministers in July 2010, and its construction is expected to start in 2012.

SSE director of onshore renewables David Gardner said that the company has a strong track record in wind farm development throughout Scotland and the acquisition of the Calliachar wind farm project further strengthens its position as the UK’s largest generator of energy from renewable sources.

"Tackling climate change and securing future energy supplies remain a high priority, and SSE is committed to reducing the carbon intensity of its generation by 50% by 2020. This can be achieved through investment in renewable energy," Gardner said.
