The 300MW plant’s operations had been suspended since 2 July 2012 due to an emergency technical failure, reported ColomboPage.
Two of the three gas turbines of the plant were repaired by the authorities, and they restored partial power generation by 25 July to add 200MW to the grid.
Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), the power and energy authority of Sri Lanka, has also suspended power generation at the other thermal power plant in Norochcholai due to an emergency technical failure.
But the operations at the Lakvijaya coal power plant in Norochcholai were restored soon, putting an end to the power cuts two days after enforcing.
Hydropower plants have generated only 12.8% of the country’s requirement on 1 August and thermal power plants provided a load of 87.2%.
