SPX Corp has entered into a $20m contract to replace moisture separator reheaters (MSRs) for Biblis nuclear power plant A in Germany.

The nuclear plant, which is operated by RWE Power, is located in the west-central region of Germany.

The company said that the Balcke-Duerr business of SPX will manufacture and install the components.

The Biblis plant, located 13km north of the city of Worms in the Hessen region, consists of two pressurized water reactor units with a total electrical capacity of about 2,500MW.

The units generate enough electricity annually to meet the needs of five million residential households in Germany at full capacity.

According to RWE Power estimates, the plants also prevent emissions of about 15 million tons of carbon dioxide per year, in comparison to power generation from fossil fuels.
