The South Hook LNG Terminal with a regasification capacity of 15.6mn tones a year will be receiving gas straight from the Qatargas 2 project, the LNG venture at Ras Laffan.
H.E. Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of State for Energy and Industry Affairs launched the company on October 21, 2009, in the presence of the UK Undersecretary of State for Energy and Climate Change David Kidney MP.
H.E. Dr. Al-Sada said: “Guided by the vision of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, for Qatar”s oil and gas industry, Qatar will reach an LNG production capacity of about 77 million tons per annum by 2011″.
He confirmed that “this will further consolidate Qatar”s position as a world leader in the LNG market, a fact for which Qatar is justly proud.”
H.E. Dr. Al-Sada stated that “2009 has been an exciting year with the successful inauguration of Qatargas 2 in April, followed by the South Hook LNG Terminal in May. Success was secured by bringing together Qatar”s vas gas reserves with leading technology and expertise”.
H.E. Dr. Al-Sada pointed out that “as part of our commitment to serve the UK market, South Hook Gas has been established with the objectives of securing the import capacity provided by the South Hook LNG Terminal, and in doing so, contribute to strengthening the UK”s energy security.” H.E. Dr. al-Sada is scheduled to visit South Hook LNG Terminal today.
