Belectric’s Israeli subsidiary Belectric Israel will work in joint venture with Solel Boneh for the development and construction of the solar project. Solel Boneh is one of the largest construction and civil engineering companies in the country.
The solar plant will be built near the village of Zeélim. Construction of the solar project is expected to begin in the coming months and the commissioning is expected to take place in 2019.
When commissioned, the Zeélim project is expected to generate more than 220GWh of clean electricity ever year. It could add significantly to the country’s energy security, while securing hundreds of local jobs during the construction and operational phases.
Belectric Solar & Battery CEO Ingo Alphéus said: “Zeélim is the largest single PV project in our company history outside of Germany. This is in line with our strategy to significantly grow our business in key solar markets like Israel.
“As Israel’s largest solar plant, this project marks an important step to provide eco and grid-friendly electricity to Israel and help the country to reach their target of a ten percent share of renewables in its energy mix by 2020.”
Apart from the construction contract, Belectric Israel has also been given the responsibility of handling the operations and maintenance of the solar project. The service contract includes remote power plant monitoring, regular inspections and on-site support in the event of a fault.
