Solarcentury has acquired 400MW pipeline solar projects across Mexico, and Central and South America.

The utility scale pipeline projects have been acquired from ECOsolar and these include a mix of ready to build and partially developed solar plants. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

ECOsolar is a private equity investor and four personnel from the company will join Solarcentury’s Latin American team in Panama City. ECOsolar’s general manager Enrique de Ramon will now head Solarcentury’s business in Latin America.

Through the acquisition, Solarcentury intends to become a leading solar projects developer in the Latin American region. The addition of new members is expected to to bolster the Solarcentury teams across the Panamanian, Mexican and Chilean offices.

Solarcentury in Latin America managing director Enrique de Ramon said: “Solarcentury’s development experience will ensure that the sizeable pipeline of acquired projects will be converted to completed projects, ensuring ROI for investors, and that businesses will benefit from cheaper power for the lifetime of the projects.

“The project pipeline for the whole of Solarcentury’s LatAm business is now over 1GW. The significant strength of Solarcentury’s LatAm team means the company is exceptionally well placed to become a market leader in the region.”

In last June, JinkoSolar and Solarcentury partnered to work on the devlopment of two solar farms totaling 170MW output in Mexico. While JinkoSolar was responsible for investment in the projects, the development of the sites was given to Solarcentury.

Solarcentury CEO Frans van den Heuvel said: “Solarcentury has past experience of working with ECOSolar so we are confident that it is a positive cultural fit.

“The new starters in the LatAm business, together with the many talented Solarcentury people already working across our LatAm offices, will build on the multi-megawatt projects we’ve already delivered in the region.

“This will add to the 800MW of solar projects Solarcentury has already delivered, across four continents.”
