The solar thermal power facility will house two power plants each having a nominal generating capacity of 250MW.
Together these plants are expected to provide enough electricity to power up to 150,000 homes and remove approximately one-half megaton of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The power project will employ dry-cooling technology which will enable it to use approximately 90% less water than comparable wet-cooled facilities, the company said.
For the project, Solar Millennium has also applied to the US Bureau of Land Management for a 5,200-acre Right-of-Way located directly north of US Interstate-10 and 30 miles west of the City of Blythe, where Solar Trust of America is constructing the 1,000MW Blythe solar power project.
