San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is to use software modelling to maximise hydro power generation within the US state’s bay area.

The Newtown, Pennsylvania-based unit of Danish software developer DHI Water & Environment is to assist SFPUC in the use of the MIKE BASIN decision support tool for modelling the water delivery, reservoir and hydro power system from the Sierra Nevada mountain reservoirs, which serves around 1.6 million people in the San Francisco area.

The software, according to DHI, is to be used to evaluate operational alternatives during system maintenance and maximise hydro power output without losing reliability.
