Taipower has been asked by the Taiwanese Government to submit a report by 2017 on the way the spent nuclear fuel from its six reactors will be dealt with and finally dispose.
SKB will help Taipower in structuring the work of drawing up plans, and provide safety assessments and technology to design the final repository system.
SKB International senior advisor Hans Forsström said: "This is the largest agreement that SKB International has ever signed and evidence of the international demand for Swedish expertise."
"According to their current plans, the final repository will start operating in 2065. That is a long way ahead but we know from experience that these things take time, so in my opinion the timetable is still an ambitious one."
Taiwan intends to use final repository techniques such as KBS-3 method, which is primarily used in Sweden and Finland.
