The 288MW DanTysk wind farm located west of the island of Sylt in northern Germany is the first project to be connected with the mainland grid.

The wind farm will be connected via a high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission link using subsea and underground cable.

The HVDC system, transformers and gas-insulated high-voltage switchgear will be installed on an offshore substation platform for transmission of electricity generated by the wind farm to the mainland.

Siemens will install the grid link in consortium with Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian Powerlink.
