Siemens Energy has won an order from BrightSource Energy to supply an SPPA-T3000 instrumentation & controls (I&C) system and two steam turbine-generators for the Ivanpah solar thermal power plant in California.

The power plant, located in the Mojave desert, will have an installed capacity of about 400MW.

Siemens will supply the SPPA-T3000 for all three units of the project, while the two steam turbines and two generators will be supplied for the plant’s second and third units that are expected to start commercial operation in 2013.

In October 2008, the company received an order for the supply of a steam turbine and generator for the first unit of the project.

According to Siemens, the plant’s generating capacity will be sufficient to supply about 140,000 households with clean power and the project is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 400,000 tons per year.
