Siemens begins commercial operations of Shuweihat S3 power plant in Abu Dhabi

The 1,600MW power plant is owned by Shuweihat Asia Power Company (SAPCO) and operated by Shuweihat Asia O&M Company (SAOM) to address the increasing power demand in Abu Dhabi.

SAPCO is a consortium comprising Sumitomo, the Korea Electric Power and the local utility Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA).

Located approximately 260km west of Abu Dhabi, the power plant features four SGT5-4000F gas turbines, two SST5-4000 steam turbines, six generators (SGen5-1000A and SGen5-2000H), the electrical as well as SPPA-T3000 Instrumentation and Control (I&C) system.

Siemens Energy Power Generation Division project management head Lothar Balling said: "The Siemens ZeroHarm safety program was implemented within the S3 Project which is focused on improving the safety culture from the top down, encouraging all on site to be proactive in managing safety."
