The new generating unit, which will replace two older units at the facility, is scheduled to start operation in late 2012.

Shaw secured an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services contract last year from Duke for construction of the new unit.

According to the company, this project will employ more than 400 workers at the peak of construction.

Shaw is also building a new 620MW gas-fired unit at Duke’s Buck steam station in North Carolina, which is expected to begin operation in late 2011.
