The power project is located adjacent to the company’s 10MW El Dorado solar project in Boulder City, Nevada, about 40 miles southeast of Las Vegas.

Sempra Generation began construction of the Copper Mountain solar project in January 2010 at a 380-acre desert site.

The facility, which includes about 775,000 thin-film solar panels, is expected to generate enough emission-free electricity to power about 14,000 average homes.

Electricity generated by the solar plant will be purchased by Pacific Gas & Electric under a 20-year contract.
