Alex Salmond, whose SNP government has said it favors renewable energy over nuclear power – is anticipated to make an announcement during the visit.
Salmond will meet Ignacio Galan, chief executive of Iberdrola, the Spanish company which owns ScottishPower, along with Nick Horler, chief executive of ScottishPower, and Keith Anderson, managing director of ScottishPower.
Salmond will also be opening a Scottish Gas “energy academy” in Hamilton.
The training centre is division of the power firm’s stated commitment to increase the number of apprentice engineers in Scotland to more than 100 each year.
It will help guide engineers in “green technologies”, such as domestic micro-generation, energy-efficient produce and smart meters, so they can advise customers.
