Under the contract, SBM Offshore will design the three turrets similar to and slightly larger in size than the Shell Prelude FLNG turret which SBM Offshore was awarded in 2011.
The FEED contractors for the project include Technip and Samsung Heavy Industries consortium, Wood Group and OneSubsea.
Located 425km north of Broome in Western Australia, the Browse project involves development of Brecknock, Calliance and Torosa fields using Shell’s floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) technology.
The Browse project will be developed by incorporating the lessons learned by Shell, Technip Samsung Consortium and SBM Offshore in the design and construction of Shell’s Prelude FLNG project.
This is expected to maximize efficiencies for the three Browse FLNG facilities in replicating the Prelude FLNG solutions, SBM Offshore said.
The project is being developed by the Browse Joint Venture (JV), which is operated by Woodside Energy with 30.6% stake.
Other JV partners include Shell Australia with 27% stake, BP Developments Australia with 17.33% interest, Japan Australia LNG with 14.4% and PetroChina International Investment with 10.67%.
Final investment decision for the project is planned to be announced in the second half of 2016.
The Torosa, Brecknock and Calliance fields, which will be developed using three FLNG platforms, are estimated to have combined gross contingent resources (2C) of 15.4 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of dry gas and 453m barrels of condensate.
