Canada-based electricity supplier SaskPower is proposing to build a new 230kV transmission line to serve Shore Gold's diamond mine project within the Fort a la Corne Provincial Forest in Saskatchewan.

If the project proceeds, the line will tap off an existing transmission line that runs between Codette and Beatty.

Approval for the power line routes will be sought from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, and the planned completion date for the project is December 2012.

SaskPower president and CEO Robert Watson said that this power line will help meet the needs of the mining industry in central Saskatchewan.

"SaskPower must ensure that adequate facilities are in place to meet the growing demands of industries as they develop within Saskatchewan," Watson said.
