The well has been spud as part of its two well exploration program and is expected to reach a total vertical depth of 1,090m in less than 30 days.

The well is being drilled by Diament Oil Exploration and after its completion; the rig will be mobilized to drill Cheslaw-SL1, the second of the two wells.

San Leon Energy chairman Oisin Fanning said the Nowa Sol drilling program is an exciting development for the company with the possibility of generating near term cash flow should it be successful.

"As a result of the sizable acreage that we have accumulated in this region any positive result is likely to have a significant impact," Fanning added.

The primary focus of both the wells is the Permian aged Main Dolomite formation targeting future production and the company also plans an extensive geophysical evaluation program across the entire Main Dolomite section.

The wells were identified based upon detailed interpretation of the 170km2 Nowa Sol 3D seismic survey undertaken in 2010.
