Under the contract, SAIC will manage, implement, and integrate an Oracle Lodestar meter data management system; advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) headend systems from Sensus; 124,000 residential electric meters; and 5,000 home area network (HAN) devices.
SAIC will also be responsible for business process improvement with the integration of a service oriented architecture (SOA), installation of a customer facing web portal and transition of the new business processes into the organization. Lakeland will leverage a supplemental federal matching grant for the contract.
Lakeland expects this Smart Grid Initiative program to reduce the city annual carbon footprint by 14,000 tons and to facilitate future demand response and distributed automation capabilities.
The city also expects this program to develop an enhanced power grid with greater operational efficiency, which in turn will help the city to optimize capital investments to minimize energy prices, and facilitate time-of-use pricing to give consumers control over their energy bills.
