Initially, RWE and Samruk seek to jointly study the use of coal gasification and the usage of synthetic natural gas in Kazakhstan. The country has significant coal resources, mainly in the east and the north.
Stefan Judisch, chief commercial officer of RWE Supply & Trading, said: We are committed to intensifying our co-operation with our partners in the Caspian region in the business field of energy. A successful study could also provide RWE with opportunities for gas procurement in Kazakhstan in the long term.
