The new turbine has the improved construction and is distinguished by high degree of environmental safety. Replacement will allow increasing hydropower unit capacity from 115 MW to 125.5 MW. Works have been carried out within the program of RusHydro integrated renovation.
Impeller of the new five-blade turbine is designed for higher water discharge that provides capacity increase. It will allow reducing sterile spills through the spillway dike during flood and providing additional electrical generation. A number of the hydrogenerator assemblies have been replaced at the power unit, modern systems of control, vibrating control and diagnostics have been assembled.
20 hydropower units were installed at Zhiguli HPP, six of them were renovated before the year 2010. In 2010 a regular contract was signed between companies RusHydro and Power Machines aimed at renewal of the remaining 14 hydropower units. After putting into operation of hydropower unit No.7 at the hydro power plant prior to 2018 the remaining three hydropower units are planned to be renewed. After completion of renovation Zhiguli HPP capacity will increase by 147 MW and will amount 2 488 MW.
Renewal of Zhiguli HPP is focused on enhancement of reliability and safety of the plant operation, reduction of operating and maintenance expenses and increase of equipment capacity.
