The company will acquire a 19.6% stake in SeverEnergia by buying Enel’s 40% stake in a joint venture with Eni.
Said to help increase Rosneft recoverable gas reserves, the transaction will also create a ground for implementation of the company’s gas strategy, aimed at gas production increase to 100bcm annually.
The parties will also continue to work on developing cooperation in the area of gas supplies.
Rosneft president and chairman of the management board Igor Sechin said acquisition of a stake in SeverEnergia will create a multiplying effect for further growth.
"Gas business is one of the Company’s strategic development priorities," Sechin added.
The acquisition is also said to help generate additional synergies from the joint asset development within the Yamal Gas Cluster, while enabling the company expand contracted gas deliveries in the long-run.
