Under this contract, Rolls-Royce to supply eight Neutron Instrumentation Systems (NIS) and six Rod Control Systems (RCS) and for eight new nuclear power plant projects located at Fangchengang (units 1 and 2); Hongyanhe (units 5 and 6) and Yangjiang (units 3, 4, 5 and 6).

The RCS controls the power of the nuclear reactor by actuating control rod drive mechanism in order to withdraw or insert the reactor control rods.

On the other hand the NIS enables operators to monitor nuclear power, power fluctuations, and radial and axial power distribution in the reactor by using the neutron flux measured by the ‘excore’ neutron detectors.

Rolls-Royce will manufacture these systems, which will operate with the new Chinese designed CPR1000 nuclear power plants, at its facility in Meylan, France, thereby taking a step towards realizing its goal of creating a strong foothold in Chinese nuclear power market.
