RInfra bags $774m contracts for Bangladesh LNG-based power project

India-based Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) has bagged INR5,000crore ($774.5m) worth engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts for the Reliance Bangladesh Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and Power Project in Bangladesh.

The contracts were awarded by Reliance Power through its subsidiary Reliance Bangladesh LNG & Power based on an international competitive bidding (ICB) to RInfra, which is also part of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.

The first EPC contract will see RInfra establish the complete infrastructure associated with a 750MW LNG-fueled combined cycle power plant to be built at Meghnaghat near Dhaka.

The second contract is for constructing a 500MMSCFD floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) based integrated LNG terminal project at Kutubdia Island near Chittagong.

Both the power plant and the floating LNG terminal are part of the $1bn first phase of Reliance Power’s 3GW gas-fired power project.

RInfra will execute both the contracts in a project schedule of 24 months, with the work expected to be completed by 2019.

For the two projects, RInfra will be responsible for providing design, engineering, supply, transportation, erection, testing and commissioning processes.

According to the company, the integrated LNG terminal project works would see establishing a jetty and laying out onshore and offshore gas pipelines.

RInfra EPC CEO Arun Gupta said: “Our thrust on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) has ensured the successful execution of all the EPC projects we have won.

“This power project win comes after winning an EPC order for Rs. 3,675 crore from NLC India Limited for setting up two Lignite based CFBC Thermal Power Projects of capacity 250 MW each.”

In another development, Reliance Power has given an equipment supply contract of the project to its subsidiary Samalkot Power. Through this contract, a previously procured module of equipment for the 2.25GW Samalkot combined cycle power station in Andhra Pradesh will be transported for the Bangladeshi power project.

Earlier in the week, the Reliance Bangladesh LNG and Power Project had secured a financing of $583m from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
