The electric APV, which will make use of REV’s bi-directional charging capabilities, will be part of TARDEC’s micro-grid demonstration program that will be conducted at the Wheeler Air Force Base in Hawaii.
The APV is a mobile energy transport system that includes REV’s proprietary energy storage and powertrain system that allow vehicle operators to invert its stored electricity and power industrial equipment, buildings and homes.
APV, which has been designed to charge energy from and discharge energy to the grid wherever the vehicle is plugged to prevent blackouts and increase the reliability of power grids, can be viewed online using wireless control.
REV has orders of more than 25 APVs for the City of Santa Monica, the City of Surrey, City of Welland, Burlington Hydro and a power utility, and expects to secure contracts to supply more than 200 APVs in 2011.
REV CEO Jay Giraud said that REV’s APVs lie at the intersection of the automotive and energy industries, its APV technology is eliminating transportation emissions, networking large amounts of power and storage and making it highly accessible anywhere.
