British renewable energy developer RES has planned to develop an environmentally-friendly biomass power plant within the Port of Liverpool at Alexandra Dock, UK.

The project will have 100MW to 150MW generating capacity depending on the outcome of the initial feasibility studies.

RES project manager Johanna Doyle said that the company has chosen the Alexandra Dock site as it allows the company to bring about 80% of the biomass fuel to the site by ship.

This will help ensure that road deliveries to the site are minimized while using the skills and expertise that exist within the port and local area, the company said.

The proposed power plant is expected to generate enough electricity for approximately 170,000 to 250,000 homes every year, and will cut CO2 emissions by 300,000 to 450,000 tonnes annually.
