Established in 2006 by the Ontario Power Authority, the FIT project was expected to encourage investment in renewable energy sector in the region.

RES Canada vice president Peter Clibbon said, "Rutley Solar demonstrates RES Canada’s robust construction capabilities, and puts a spotlight on the significant knowledge and expertise we offer to our clients."

SunEdison Canada has developed the 10MW project, which covers about 100 acres and is consists of more than 40,000 solar panels.

Construction of the project lasted from August 2011 through March 2012.

Power generated from the solar farm will be fed into the Hydro One Network in Ontario.
