RES America Developments, a unit of Renewable Energy Systems Americas, has collaborated with Xcel Energy to construct a 200MW wind power project near Austin, Minnesota.

The proposed Pleasant Valley Wind Farm will be constructed and developed by the company; while Xcel Energy will own and operate the wind power project, when completed.

RES America noted that the development and construction phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

Commenting on the project, RES Americas president and CEO Susan Reilly said the project will produce clean and renewable energy, and will provide one of the lowest cost power resources currently available in the region.

Xcel Energy chairman, president and CEO Ben Fowke said, "We are committed to meeting our customers’ needs in clean and affordable ways.

"Wind power is simply the cheapest resource available right now, and we are taking the opportunity afforded by the PTC extension to further shape our systems for the future."

According to the company, the Pleasant Valley Wind Farm is part of the 600MW of wind power that was announced by Xcel Energy in its Upper Midwest service territory.
