The wind farm is located around 28km off the Belgian coast in waters between 12m and 27m deep.
The turbines have a total rated power generating capacity of approximately 295MW and are envisaged for the second and third phases of the wind farm.
Companies from Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Denmark are involved in the wind farm, which was officially put into operation at the end of June 2009.
The installation of 24 turbines for phase 2 is planned for the spring of 2012, and a further 24 are designated for installation during a third extension stage by mid-2013.
In 2008, REpower delivered and installed six turbines of the REpower 5M type for the first extension stage of the Thornton Bank wind farm.
For the second and third phases, REpower’s scope of delivery covers – as in the first extension stage – the production and supply of the nacelles, towers, blades and hubs as well as pre-installation in the port of Oostende.
REpower is also responsible for the installation, commissioning and test run of the turbines.
The company will deliver its full service product OFS for all three stages, which includes responsibility for operations and maintenance, as well as the transportation at sea.
