BP Energy Marketing is to build a 22.5 MW wind farm at a refinery in the Netherlands owned jointly by BP and Chevron Texaco. The company has appointed Mott MacDonald as owner’s engineer for the project at Nerefco, near Rotterdam. The r25 million project is being built by Nordex and will support a covenant between Rotterdam harbour authorities and the government aimed at encouraging environmental projects within the Europoort area. The wind farm will comprise nine 2.5 MW wind turbines, each mounted on an 80 m tower. Blade diameter is 80 m and the nacelles weigh around 100t. Generation is expected to start later this year.
