The US Bureau of Reclamation has signed a Finding of No Significant Impact for providing a WaterSMART Program grant to the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) in the implementation of advanced metering and water conservation improvements.

EBMUD will use the WaterSMART Program grant to replace approximately 3,000 water meters on existing service connections, and the purchase and installation of acoustic leak detection sensors and pressure sensors.

Once completed, the project would conserve approximately 1,680 acre-feet of water annually.

Reclamation is the largest wholesale water supplier in the United States, and the nation's second largest producer of hydroelectric power. Its facilities also provide substantial flood control, recreation, and fish and wildlife benefits.
