Solar electric system provider REC Solar has been awarded six new federal projects, including five from the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and one from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, as well as two utility projects.

These solar projects will have a total power generating capacity of 9.1MW and are expected to be completed by December 2011.

The USDA Forest Service installation will be a ground-mounted system located in the greater Los Angeles area.

REC Solar will design and install five solar arrays on VA hospitals in California, Arizona and Florida, located on roof, ground or carport-mounted arrays and tailored to each location.

The company will also construct a 1.1MW ground-mounted array for a municipal utility in Hayward, California, and a 1.21MW array for interconnection to the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) grid in Kapaa, Hawaii.
