An international seminar and study tour on Roller-Compacted Concrete Dams (RCC 2004) is scheduled for 13-18 September 2004 in Atlanta, US.

The programme, sponsored by Schnabel Engineering in conjunction with the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO). consists of a four day seminar followed by a one day study tour.

The seminar offers a structured course on RCC for new dams and the use of RCC for the rehabilitation of existing dams. It will feature educational presentations by 14 acknowledged experts on the use of RCC from private engineering firms, contractors, and US government agencies. All phases of RCC design, construction, and quality control testing will be covered in the seminar. Also, included in the course is a tour of two RCC dam projects in Georgia and several social events. Attendance at the past three seminars has attracted a capacity audience of 40 persons.

The study tour by motor coach will start and end in Atlanta. The tour will include viewing the completed Big Haynes RCC dam, Georgia as well as Saluda dam under construction near Columbia, South Carolina at night and during the day. The 61m high Saluda dam requires about 1Mm3 of RCC and is the largest volume RCC dam project under construction in the US. Four presentations on this dam remediation project will be conducted at the Saluda site.
