Qatar Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell have selected US-based Flour to provide front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for a newly proposed grassroots petrochemical project.

The proposed Al-Karaana petrochemical project will be established in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar.

Work scope at the Al-Karaana petrochemical project includes a mix-feed steam cracker, two train monoethylene glycol units, linear alpha olefins and oxo alcohol units, and required utilities, infrastructure and offsites.

Fluor Energy & Chemicals Group president Peter Oosterveer said the petrochemical project is expected to become a standard for future petrochemical projects in Qatar.

"The Middle East is an extremely important region for Fluor, and we are honored that QP and Shell have selected our experienced petrochemical team for this project," Oosterveer added.
