Purolator has inducted the new HEVs across its locations with 43 added to the Halifax and Dartmouth fleet, 60 HEVs added to Guelph, 19 to Niagara, and 79 in the Greater Toronto Area.
Purolator has partially funded its hybrid electric vehicle initiative in Nova Scotia with support from Conserve Nova Scotia through the ecoNova Scotia Fund for Clean Air and Climate Change.
Since 2005, Purolator has replaced conventional curbside delivery vehicles with HEVs in Canada, thereby reducing more than 2,100 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and 645,000 litres of fuel.
Purolator president and CEO Tom Schmitt said that as the company turns 50, Purolator is proud to continue to lead the industry towards green alternatives.
"In 2005, Purolator was the first logistics company in Canada to introduce hybrid electric vehicles. Today, we have the largest fleet in North America," Schmitt said.
