The Linden Solar Farm, which will feature 11,484 solar panels covering a little more than 10 acres of PSE&G property, will be connected directly to the electric grid and will produce enough electricity to power about 525 average-sized homes.
PSE&G has commissioned American Capital Energy, a developer of solar energy projects, to deploy the Linden solar project creating jobs and helping New Jersey to build a new, green sector.
The facility is one of four ground-mounted solar farms that the utility is developing as part of its $515m Solar 4 All program designed to build more than 20 solar projects generating 30MW of energy and representing an investment of more than $140m.
The four ground-mounted solar farms to be developed on PSE&G-owned properties in Linden Yardville (4.4MW), Edison (2MW) and Trenton (1.3MW) will utilize crystalline solar panel technology and have monitoring and communications functionality.
PSE&G vice president of renewables and energy solutions Al Matos said that the Linden Solar Farm shows how the benefits of solar power extend far beyond just producing clean, carbon-free electricity.
