A long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) has been signed between the government of Uganda and Bujagali Energy, for the planned 250MW Bujagali hydroelectric power project.

The project will involve the development of a dam on the river Nile in Uganda approximately 8km north of the existing Nalubaale and Kiira Falls hydroelectric facilities. The Government of Uganda acted through the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company.

The project documentation for Uganda, including the PPA and implementation agreement, was developed and negotiated by US Legal firm Hunton & Williams. The firm also led the team of financial and technical advisors that structured and arranged the transaction on behalf of the government.

The Bujagali hydroelectric project is expected to be the largest foreign direct investment into sub-Saharan East Africa in history.
