Colombia is to begin work on a $548M, 660MW dam and hydro power station some 150 km northeast of Medellin.

State-run public works company Empresas Publicas de Medellin (EPM) said the dam would be built by 2009. It said work on the project, called Porce III, should begin in the second half of the year. The government has still to approve Porce III’s environmental impact assessment.
