Siemens has announced the details of second phase of the restructuring following acquisition of Westinghouse’s fossil business. This restructuring is expected to result in cost savings of $600 million per year.
Over the next 2 years, the manufacturing workforce will be reduced by 1000 in Europe and 800 in North America, from current levels of 7000 in Europe and 3000 in North America.
Steam turbine production will be concentrated in Müllheim and generator production in Charlotte. Gas turbine production will continue at both manufacturing plants in Berlin and Hamilton, Ontario.
Turbine and generator service will be integrated into a dedicated division responsible for all service activities worldwide.
