Petrobras made the discovery while drilling the exploration well 1-BRSA-1083-SES (1-SES-167) known as Farfan, at 2,720m water depth.

Farfan well is located 10km from the recently completed Barra extension well which also held oil, in the same basin.

The company confirmed the Farfan discovery by collecting and performing electric log analysis on the oil samples gathered encountered during the drilling.

At the depths of 5,582m, Petrobras detected 40m of porous sandstones containing light hydrocarbons of the 44m hydrocarbon column.

The company plans to drill the well to a depth of up to 6,000m and will carry out further analysis of the rocks and fluids it gathers from the well.
