Under this contract, Pepco Energy will install numerous energy conservation measures in the housing authority’s public family and public elderly housing units, impacting a total of 30 buildings over the 15-year contract term.
The contract needs Pepco Energy to improve building envelopes and install energy-efficient lighting, temperature-limiting thermostats, domestic hot water systems, high-efficiency boilers, hot water piping insulation, Energy Star refrigerators and attic insulation.
Construction on the project, which is expected to enable the CCHA to its cut energy expenses by more than $2.7m over the contract term while also reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 300 metric tons per year, began in November 2010 and is due to be complete in April 2011.
Cumberland County Housing Authority assistant director Christopher Houston said that the organization is very pleased with the fact that with these improvements CCHA will realize significant energy savings and reduce its carbon footprint.
"In addition, we are also delighted that Pepco Energy has engaged local subcontractors for this project," Houston said.
