The oil output at Ku-Maloob-Zaap averaged 797,000 bpd, up nearly 20% from a year earlier.
The two fields, which are offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and are close to the southeastern Mexico state Campeche, accounted for around 60% of the nation’s production during the first quarter of 2009.
The firm had initially estimated that its output would be 2.8 million bpd this year. But last week, PEMEX said that it may be as low as 2.6 million bpd.
On Tuesday, the firm also said it had sold nearly 1.3 million bpd of oil overseas during the first quarter of 2009, earning nearly $4.5 billion.
PEMEX said the price for Mexico’s crude mix averaged $38.92 a barrel for the quarter, less than half the $83.94 PEMEX had earned from each barrel in the first quarter of 2008.
