Progress Energy Carolinas (PEC) has supplied a portion of NC Electric Membership Corporation’s (NCEMC’s) load requirements located in PEC’s control area for more than 50 years.
Under the new agreement, by the end of the contract term, PEC will supply the majority of NCEMC’s load within the PEC control area, or approximately 2,750MW. The contract is the result of NCEMC’s request for proposals for power supply resources issued in October 2007, said the company.
According to PEC, it will account for the added load when it files its next integrated resource plan with the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
Progress Energy Carolinas, a subsidiary of Progress Energy, claims to provide electricity and related services to more than 1.4 million customers in North Carolina and South Carolina. The company is headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., and serves a territory encompassing over 34,000 square miles including the cities of Raleigh, Wilmington, Fayetteville, and Asheville in North Carolina and Florence and Sumter in South Carolina.
