Some 350 MW need annually through to 2025

According to an official mandate, the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) is to produce 8,800 MW by 2025, the deputy chairman of Pakistan’s Planning Commission, Dr Akram Shaikh, has reportedly stated. Work will begin this year on developing a second unit at the Chasma nuclear facility as part of the requirement for an additional 350 MW per year over the next 20 years.

Dr Sheikh said that PAEC should go for “big initiatives to cope with the needs of the nations” and it would find a committed supporter in the federal government. Sheikh added that the Planning Commission was devising a medium-term planning framework on the subject.
