Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) and Mexican partner, Automatizacion y Tecnologia Mexicana SA de CV (Atemex), have implemented new SCADA system for Division de Distribucion Noroeste of Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) at its Distribution Control Center in Hermosillo, Mexico. The system includes supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), web-based graphical user interface, historical information and archiving system as well as trending and calculation subsystem.

The new system also includes open database connectivity as well as DNP and ICCP communications.

Division de Distribucion Noroeste provides electric energy to over 1,700,600 customers in the Northwest area of Mexico.

Atemex and OSI have equipped Division de Distribucion Noroeste with OSIs advanced monarch (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) technology on the Linux platform, providing an open and scalable system to fulfill their needs well into the future. In addition to solving the inherent problems of their former legacy system, the flexibility of the monarch platform will allow Division de Distribucion Noroeste to optimally cope with increases in energy demand. OSI, Atemex and Division de Distribucion Noroeste have formed a strong partnership and implemented a SCADA system with unmatched levels of dependability, effectiveness and maintenance ease.

”With the support and assistance of the CFE team at Division de Distribucion Noroeste in Zona Hermosillo, OSI and the partner are proud to announce the completed commission of the SCADA system. One hundred percent of the electrical network and distribution substations in the area are now under the supervision and control of an OSI monarch system. Atemex is thoroughly satisfied with the installation of OSIs first system in Mexico, and we hope that with continued hard work and excellence in customer service, the coming years will see most of the control centers in Mexico using OSI technology, said Luis Teran, president of Atemex. With the active participation of the CFE team in Hermosillo, we have added redundancy features to the existing system without interrupting online system operation, which highlights the elegant design, ease of maintenance and use of the monarch system. The CFE and Atemex teams are very pleased with the system and process undertaken.

OSI is proud to have Division de Distribucion Noroeste as OSIs first customer in Mexico. We look forward to a continued and mutually beneficial relationship for many years to come. Our work with Division de Distribucion Noroeste and Atemex teams has been, and continues to be, enjoyable and productive. Clearly there is a shared excitement with the prospect of replicating the successful experience with many CFE divisions and other utilities in Mexico,” said Bahman Hoveida, president and CEO of OSI.

OSI is a US-based supplier of open automation solutions for real-time management and optimization of complex production, transport, and delivery networks for utilities in the electric, oil and gas, transport, and water industries.
