The Russian port of Pevek in Chukotka in the Arctic northeast has received the first convoy of ships carrying a batch of materials and equipment to construct the on-shore infrastructure for the pilot floating nuclear co-generation plant (FNPP), nuclear utility Rosenergoatom (customer) said on 20 September.

The delivery included construction machinery and more than 6,000t of metal structures. Work will start on the FNPP construction site on 26 September in line with the planned schedule. FNPP Akademik Lomonosov, which was built at the Baltijskiy Zavod in St Petersburg, has been undergoing docking trials since July, and these will be completed by the end of October 2017.
“After that the Akademik Lomonosov will leave the shipyard and will be delivered to the operations base via the Northern Sea Route and connected to on-shore infrastructure being built in Pevek,” Rosenergoatom said. It will be ready for ransportation by the end of 2017. In September 2019, Rosenergoatom plans to start installing the FNPP in its designated place ready for commissioning. Akademik Lomonosov (Project 20870) fitted with KLT-40S reactors capable of producing up to 70MWe and 50 Gcal/h of heat in nominal operating mode.
