The Oprisenesti oil field has been in production for almost five decades with a daily production of around 2% of the total oil production of the company in Romania.
OMV is redeveloping the field to unlock additional hydrocarbon reserves of eight million barrels of oil equivalent.
Under the redevelopment project, the company will spud 30 new wells, unlock the reserves by re-pressurization through water injection, implement modern equipment and new techniques essential to develop mature fields.
In addition, the project will build a water treatment station to reduce gas emissions, and construct a new pipeline transport network and three new pump stations.
OMV Petrom Exploration and Production executive board member Johann Pleininger said the company is investing in new technologies and secondary recovery methods to redevelop mature fields in Romania to improve oil and gas recovery rate and stabilize production levels.
"In this way we can extend the fields’ production life, with positive impact for the long term supply of energy to Romania," Pleininger added.
