US-based OCI Solar Power has commenced the construction of the 41MW Alamo 1 solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, the first phase of its 400MW project in Texas.

The phase-I of the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013, while the remaining 359MW project will be completed by 2016.

Municipal utility CPS Energy will purchase the electricity from the complete 400MW project including the Alamo 1 plant through a 25-year agreement.

OCI Solar Power president Tony Dorazio said that the company is seeking to work with the San Antonio community.

"The development of each phase of the project gets us closer and closer to bringing clean, renewable energy to homes and businesses throughout the area," added Dorazio.
