The company is looking for 500,000t of biomass fuel for its 60MW biomass plant, expected to be operational in 2013.

Commenting on the development Nova Scotia Power vice president for power generation and delivery Mark Sidebottom remarked that the upcoming plant will spur economic activity in the region.

"The energy from this plant will play a role in meeting the province’s renewable electricity goals.

"We look forward to receiving expressions of interest from potential suppliers around the province, who are committed to using sustainable harvesting practices and being part of economic growth in our communities," added Sidebottom.

The company will require its suppliers to provide proof of origin for all its products and be in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
