The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has said that an application for a 20-year renewal of the operating license for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station is available for public review.

The Davis-Besse plant is a pressurized-water nuclear reactor located 21 miles east-southeast of Toledo, Ohio, and its current operating license expires on April 22, 2017.

The licensee, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co submitted the renewal application on 30 August 2010.

The NRC staff is conducting an initial review of the application to determine whether it contains enough information for the required formal review, the company said.

If the application has sufficient information, the NRC will formally ‘docket,’ or file the application and will announce an opportunity to request a public hearing.
